Talk talk talktalktalk.
Wait, I will review differently this time. I loved the flow of the episode. The acting, writing and directing were excellent. I don't think any other show's cast and crew could pull this season off (except early LOST people). Everyone deserves any award they get nominated for, and deserves to be nominated in any television awards. There aren't many shows out there that make me cry, cringe, laugh, and throw my remote (usually within one episode). I will miss this season, as the first one was far from it and the next might be more yawn-worthy.
That said, I hated the structure of this episode. I was to understand that this season was gonna be Lange's. At some point, it became Paulson's. If it was anyone else (except for Rabe), I might've bailed somewhere around that "touch his tumescence" scene long ago. I remember growing tired of Constance last season. Same for Lana this season. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for empowered strong females, but the quieter ones elicit more from me. There IS strength in silence, which is why Lana's actions in some moments thrilled me -- the ear touch of young Johnny (and of older Johnny), the silently getting control of the gun. But the other chatty 95%, I could do without, especially with her ess-trouble at times. Still, I adore Sarah Paulson.
Last season, Ryan Murphy stated that his seasons (this was before he admitted each would be a mini-series) would have a beginning, a middle, and an end. This translates to around four episodes per, with the current 13-ep structure. For both seasons, the last four episodes failed me. Last season ended for me with the "Birth" episode. This season ended with "The Name Game". They tried too hard to wrap up the loose ends after the deaths of Sister Mary, Arden, and Thredson who were the true villains. As for the finale, as with "Afterbirth", too much crammed into one show. At least the latter had more action in it. "Madness" could have been a radio show, except for some parts.
Finally, at the beginning of the season, I mentioned hating some of the show's "nods" to other examples of the genre. I think AHS could stand on its own, even with the similarities. I thought back to Geraldo Rivera's early days when he used to do exposés, during Lana's almost-too-long one. (Speaking of, I heard Murphy wanted to make the entire finale like that. So glad he didn't.) This show has graduated from its campiness with this season. Every character seemed real, even those crazy alien-lovers. And yes, I thought of Roy Neary when I last saw Kit.
I wish this show had more episodes to work with.

Oh, and one more thing, Mr. Murphy. Next season, if you begin with minor character scenes and merely add those scenes back in the finale without changing any dialogue, that will be my last season. Adam and Jenna (Leo and Teresa) could've been brought back, rather than add their inaccurate dialogue.

I am actually stunned by the gritty horrible scenes used for Briarcliff before it was shut down. I know real footage of these hell-holes was taken for documentaries in the 60's (?) I don't know how to find out if this was real footage or recreated from actual footge.
What happened to Kit's wife whom he married in the 70's? He was only 40-ish when he "died." His kids "wanted to care for him." They would have had to be still in school. I saw a nurse around. But no mention of his wife. Loose end.

BOOM!! Headshot!! Rot in hell Johnny boy... I kinda figured he was gonna get it from Lana, but I hoped for a good bloodyface skinning, ld skin or not. The deaths were all relatively painless. I didn't really care who died, I just wanted the deaths to be great. I kinda wanted Jude to die horribly, but instead we get an emotional shit scene. The AOD isn't really explained and the last scene with Jude and Lana was fucked up. What did she mean by that? We'll never know. Can we dissect it back to being Jude was the devil in the beginning or some shit? WTH? Timothy's death was appropriate, but we could have at least had a scene with him actually cutting his wrists, come on... As I figured the aliens weren't explained and the quick mention of his special alien kids as adults doesn't seem too special at all. Regular people do that without alien genes, whoop dee doo. Kit is out in the universe somewhere I guess, drinkin' beer and smokin alien weed. It's all good, I enjoyed the season, wanted more gruesome shit, was kinda hoping for bloodyface serial killer shit to make it better, never happened. I liked the religious aspect without throwing too much Jesus in there.. I don't even think they mentioned Jesus once in the whole season.. had some crucifixes up and shit, but that's about it. The throwback to showing how buddy got his arm cut off was good, I was hoping they'd explain what was in the room, I figured a rasper survived, but nope.. bloodyface junior hacked that shit right off, I knew he was in the building at the time in the episode he called the cops, but at least we got a little taste of the little taste of blood they gave us in the first 5 minutes of the season, even though the only thing that changed was the scenes with Johnny. She still owed him a blowjob too.. poor guy never got it. I'll be looking forward to season 3, I want a lot of bloody stuff though, maybe that turns viewers off.. but instead of saying what happened in an emotional scene, show what happened...

Jessica Lange's performance was awesome as well.. she totally stole it.. again. Even though Lana was evil and after knowing her son was there, decided to talk about him, then shot him in the fuckin head with his own gun, she was a good character. I can only imagine the publicity she got after killing her own son, who was a serial killer. She realized she should have killed him in the womb. Ah well, Lana lives, maybe she'll buy the murder house next season..
