I...loved...this...episode! However, I think viewers will slowly start to back away from this series. This is not your Season 1 AHS. This is the dark, disturbing, more violent older brother! Because of that, I think more-sensitive viewers will quit watching. I know of one AmHoSto member who has, not liking the possession part of the show. She just checks in here. ;D
I expected it to be dark and disturbing, but I did not expect the more-violent part. Sister Mary killing the Mexican lady was understandable, as she knew the nun was not what she appeared to be anymore. I just think showing the actual scissors to the neck and the arterial spray was a bit too much. They are pushing the proverbial envelope and I think some will not like that.
That being said, not one actor wasted their time on the screen. And I've said this before, but I really love Lange's Sister Jude (so much more than her Constance). Jude is the most tormented of all the patients and staff (especially when that nagging Devil dogs her) and Lange plays her perfectly (I don't think anyone else could). I knew I would like the 180o of Sister Mary Eunice as well, just tone down her violence, please. I know the Devil does not care who gets hurt and how, but we also understand that and don't need to literally see it. Rabe is however delicious in both forms (naughty/nice).
While two escape attempts in as many shows was a bit much, I understand that did constantly happen in prisons/asylums. Perhaps they could have somehow combined them, though. Still, just a great episode and my favorite so far. It looked more original than the exorcism one and the first episode was all set up for the season. I am pleased that Murphy went this route with the "anthology" idea.
What did YOU think of the episode?

I want to know all about the raspers! I think I am a little frustrated with how quickly everything is edited. While I love that in something like a Bourne movie, the camera doesn't sit still for a second on this show! I find myself pausing on scenes just to make out what it is I'm trying to see...

Can someone tell me exactly what sister Jude said about the "imcomparable" Charles Laughton? Did she say he was a "sissy"? I could not make it out through her accent during that moment.

Jude said he was a big "whoopsie" - I think she may have been referring to the supposition that Mr Laughton may have been bisexual. I watch TV with the captioning on most of the time and that was what was said according to the captioning. She's doing a beautiful job with her accent!
Hey, Infantata! How did the broken glasses get into Sister Judes office? And the phone call? No ghosts, just a nasty co-worker trying to push her over the edge?
The copycat Bloody Faces in this ep reminded me of the copycats from Season 1 that tried to kill Viv and Violet. They wound up not so healthy either, as I recall.
I agree it is bloodier that the previous season, but not so much that it puts me off. I prefer a good mystery ("who-dunnit") to a gore fest, but it is on par with Viv gutting Ben in the finale of Season 1.
Cooch, I understand your remark about the editing, but I think it adds to the what-did-I-just-see feeling. And it makes me triple glad I got a DVR just in time!

That's exactly why they show things like that - to keep us guessing. Same for the E.T.-looking alien in the hall. It also makes it VERY difficult to do screen captures with mere flickers! Some people think the Raspers are zombies.Hey, Infantata! How did the broken glasses get into Sister Judes office? And the phone call? Cooch... The glasses and the phone call, I think, are figments of her imagination. She's losing it and it started with Sister Demon bringing her the old newspaper. Possessed Mary knows all about her. Jude is either hallucinating or the devil is in those details. The alien, however, was neither, methinks.
And who's "Cooch"? Thanks y'all for stopping by!
P.S. I also didn't mind the arterial spray but was thinking of those who might.
