While pleased the Halloween episodes answered some of our questions (click here for the answers), I was a bit disappointed with the episodes. First, I wish they had let James Wong write both hours. The second part, in some ways, did not marry with the first. Both Infantata and RubberMan were totally neglected in the second part. (At least, let RM reach for Violet as she walks away.) Halloween should have been a perfect time for those two characters. Second, I refuse to believe only four or five murders happened in that house, as evidenced in the ghosts' return to it the next morning. That scene should've looked like a zombie movie with the house's dead filling the street! But those two episodes were my favorites as they did answer a few of our questions. (See above link.) Here are my minor gripes after 5 hours of AHS:
- Ben cries wayyy too much. If it's part of his dementia/downward spiral, fine, but Chad needs to tell HIM to "man up."
- Violet should've pounced on the jock who called her a "slut." I don't know too many women who would let that particular slur slide, especially a teenager.
- I understand Tate leading the group away from the Harmon house, but why not recognize a group of kids he killed (unless there are so many that he forgets)? That seems to be what some of them wanted - recognition/justification.
- We also need to see how Tate died, because I believe that he IS dead. Constance mentions a "perfect" child and we assume only Adelaide was the one presently living (prior to Halloween). One of Tate's victims mentions she would be 34 now if she was alive, which appears to be double his current age.
- Connie Britton needs to be truly scared in real life. Her screams, moans, groans, and even her sighs, don't seem genuine.
- I could go a few episodes without seeing Hayden again. At least abandon her "I MATTER!" schtick.
- I hope the doorbell breaks soon. It's gotten annoying over time.
- Again, the Halloween episodes, just like the Pilot/Home Invasion ones, should've been done as two-hour shows. Viewers wouldn't mind that, I'm sure.
My only wish for this show, this season or not, is that it can distance itself from all the derivative "nods" to other shows/movies. It was a nice novelty, but has worn thin. Supernatural and The X-Files had different, yet original, takes on the genre. Here's hoping AHS has one, too.

I think the nods will stop soon enough Infantana. This season has been great! I have no problem with the doorbell it's part of the house's charm.Unlike Supernatural and X-Files who eventually lost steam and just threw their mythology everywhere,AHS has a definite direction.

I think I will add to the AHS 5 episode gripe:
#1 - I agree with the whole Ben crying thing. I like a sensitive guy as much as the next gal but OMG...strap on a pair and quit with the waterworks!
#2 - I agree with needing to know how Tate died. I mentioned this in another thread but...How did Tate's spirit end up in the house? Was he murdered there or did he commit suicide there?
Suicide seems more likely, given his mental state and the fact that he spoke to Violet about suicide as if he had some experience in that area. But if he killed himself...why would he do it at the neighbor's house and not his own? Perhaps he shot himself at home and Constance was able to drag him to the Harmon lawn before he passed away, the way she attempted to do with Addie.
#3 - I agree about Hayden, but I suppose now that she's a ghost, we'll never be rid of the dirty, whiny mistress!
#4 - When the nurse passes out after looking at their baby on the ultrasound, shouldn't Vivian's first instinct be "OMG! What?" and then immediately turn the screen around and have a look for herself? Wouldn't you want to know if your baby had two heads or something so horrible that the technician turns white and loses consciousness?
Come to think of it, I take issue with the lack of interest shown by both the Harmon adults about the events happening around them.
In the pilot when all of the cupboard doors are mysteriously opened, Vivian assumes it was Addie...Addie responds with "It was the twins". Vivian doesn't even seem to wonder about that and moves on to the next reprimand. HOLD IT! Shouldn't the natural response to that be "What twins?". Not for any supernatural reason, but just to find out if there might be twins in the neighborhood that misbehave and are going to be a problem.
And then after the attempt on her and her daughter's life, Vivian attempts to threaten the real estate agent but is rebuffed with the news that the real estate agent only needs to report any deaths that occurred in the house within the last three years. DING DING DING...warning bells! Should Vivian not respond with "Well, now I want to know everything! Three years be damned!"
On the other side...Ben finds out that another family was murdered there (by Larry) and he doesn't even seem to give an a-whole that the skeletons are piling up in the house where is is going to raise two children!
I could go on, but I have a tendency to babble, so I will just finish by saying...gripes are part of the enjoyment of a show for me. If I didn't love AHS, I wouldn't tune in long enough to have an opinion, so I look forward to the next episode and my next gripe.

Yeah, just as the detectives on another of my shows do not investigate things as they should, the Harmons don't either. (Ben standing in the basement with the bat just LOOKING at where Addy's ball rolled to?) But I'll give them enough rope to hang themselves. Muahahaha!
