In June 2013, a casting call went out for three male characters (was wondering if Evan Peters was going to be the only one!): Hank - a handsome, blue-collar husband of one of the witchy women (thirtysomething in age, so it's for either Lily Rabe's or Sarah Paulson's boo). A male college student who’s a jerk. (these types don't last long on the show) A charming Asian doctor named David Zhong.
Hank might be recurring, and the other two could just be guests.
(A leaked YouTube video, which has since been removed, showed actor Byron Mann auditioning for Zhong.
In the video, he interacts with a woman off-screen. Eventually revealed to be "Maude," the unseen woman is wealthy, a widow and very demanding. Mann, as Dr. Zhong, shows the woman a video of a project he’s been working on - Allegra, "the equivalent of a human female in her late 80s." They inject Allegra with their new serum RM-47, which is supposed to make her youthful.
Maude says that she wants the youth serum immediately, but Dr. Zhong says she needs to wait two years. The demanding woman tells Zhong that her late husband funded his research for RM-47, and that she wants to take it now while she’s in "the prime of her life." "What I need is an infusion of vitality," she tells him. But Zhong insists that it's impossible.
It's not known who "Maude" will be played by, or even if the youth serum story will be an actual route of the show. But I could just imagine Jessica Lange saying "infusion of vitality" in NOLA-speak.)
